New technical solution for easier sheet metal handling

12.09.2025

Handling sheet metal in production processes, especially when it passes through a shot blasting machine, can be a demanding task. Heavy and bulky workpieces usually require direct operator involvement and the use of forklifts or other transport equipment. This often results in increased physical strain, higher risk of injury, and reduced productivity.

To address this challenges, we have developed a manipulator that enables fast, efficient, and ergonomic sheet metal handling. The solution has already been successfully implemented at a client in Sweden.

How the manipulator works?

The basis of the system is a trolley that moves on rails along the supporting structure. After leaving the previous process, the sheet metal is roughly positioned under the manipulator via cross conveyors. Once in place, the trolley securely lifts the sheet using vacuum suction cups, transfers it to the designated location, and aligns it precisely.

The process is fast and efficient, as the manipulator is designed to minimize errors and eliminate the need for manual handling of heavy loads. It can be used to transfer sheets between different process operations, and in this case, to stack and align sheets vertically for final packaging.

The manipulator is engineered to handle both raw and shotblasted or painted sheets, as well as sheets of varying sizes and thicknesses.

Technical design

The manipulator consists of two main units:

  • The main unit - moves on rails and includes a vacuum pump and gear drive for lifting and lowering.
  • A unit with suction cups - for a reliable grip and safe transport of sheet metal during the process.

Together, these components allow quick, precise, and ergonomic handling, even with larger and heavy sheet metal.

Key benefits for user

Using a manipulator significantly reduces the need for manual work, which means less physical strain on employees and greater safety at work. In addition, the solution increases productivity by enabling faster and more precise sheet metal movements. In the long run, this means more efficient production organization and higher quality of the final product.
