In some cases, renovating existing equipment is a sensible alternative to purchasing a new machine. Existing equipment can be successfully refurbished and, with the right upgrades, restored for long-term and efficient operation. One such option is the replacement of blasting wheels, which increases capacity without requirement significant investment in new equipment.
In 1999, a company specializing in metal construction and galvanization purchased a roller conveyor shot blasting machine for processing profiles and sheet metal up to 2.5 m wide. The machine was equipped with six 18.5 kW blasting wheels, which enabled high efficiency in cleaning metal surfaces.
Recently, the company was acquired by a new owner, who also took over the existing equipment, including the shot blasting machine. Although the machine was in good condition, the discontinuation of its manufacturer caused problems in the supply of spare parts.
The new owner contacted our representative for the Portuguese market and requested a solution to ensure the machine could continue operating without issues. During the machine inspection, it was found that the blasting turbines were in very poor condition, with one already dismantled due to a lack of spare parts.
The best solution was to modify the machine by removing the old blasting wheels and installing new ir blasting wheels with the same power of 18.5 kW. The customer accepted the proposal, as the shot blasting machine was still in excellent condition.
The work was completed in five days without the need to cut the blasting chamber. Gostol TST manufactured specific external coupling plates for this project, enabling faster installation. Additionally, the internal surfaces were reinforced with manganese linings to improve the sealing of the blasting wheels.
