How to achieve a perfect surface on titanium components?

19.06.2026

From small steel components measuring only a few millimeters to titanium parts used in the medical industry, the materials and requirements may differ, but the goal remains the same: achieving reliable, repeatable, and high-quality surface treatment.

To meet these requirements, we recently delivered three shot blasting machines tailored to different production processes. Two shot blasting machines with rotating barrel, type HR-1B, are designed for processing smaller workpieces. One is adapted for blasting titanium components for the medical industry, while the other is intended for steel products. The third machine, shot blasting machine with rotating drum type VB-140, complements the production process for blasting larger quantities of steel components.

Although their applications differ, all three machines share the same mission: to ensure uniform and repeatable surface quality, providing a solid foundation for subsequent manufacturing processes and a superior final product.

Reliable processing of small steel components

When processing large quantities of small workpieces, it is essential to ensure uniform exposure of all surfaces to the abrasive, high productivity, and consistent process quality. The HR-1B and VB-140 machines are specifically designed for such applications, enabling efficient processing of large batches with minimal manual handling and highly repeatable results.

Among the workpieces are also small components measuring approx. 10 to 15 mm in length, where uniform treatment of all surfaces is crucial for the subsequent manufacturing processes.

Shot blasting of titanium components for the medical industry

Among the delivered solutions, a machine designed for blasting titanium components for the medical industry deserves special attention. Thanks to its biocompatibility, low weight, and excellent corrosion resistance, titanium is one of the most important materials used in medical applications. At the same time, it requires precise and carefully controlled surface treatment.

An inadequate blasting process can lead to surface damage, material contamination, or changes in surface properties. For this reason, a thorough understanding of the material, the correct selection of process parameters, and close cooperation between the machine manufacturer and the customer are essential for the success of such projects.

To meet the customer's requirements, the machine was additionally equipped with a conveyor system for the automatic loading and unloading of workpieces. This solution provides a higher level of automation, increased process productivity, and a more efficient material flow throughout the production process.

Solutions tailored to the application

Every shot blasting process has its own specific requirements. While productivity and repeatability are the primary focus when processing steel components, titanium applications place greater emphasis on process precision, material protection, and strict control of surface quality.

This is why close cooperation with the customer and the customization of the machine to the specific application are among the most important factors in achieving optimal results.

Whether processing small steel components or demanding titanium parts for the medical industry, a properly selected and tailored shot blasting process is the key to reliable results and long-term product quality.
